Where it all started…

Goldenglo opened its doors for the first time in 1983 in Port Shepstone, KZN, South Africa, producing a single variety of candles with one machine. Due to our consistency in maintaining a great product quality and excellent customer service, demand for our product increased significantly. With an increased customer base and distribution network the business decided to expand its product offering. Continued market research helped the business to identify soap as a potential opportunity. In 1986, the directors completed the commissioning of a single soap plant to produce laundry soaps. With ongoing consumer research, the business then expanded its product range to include beauty soaps as well.

Over time, due to the increase in demand from customers, additional infrastructure was added to increase capacity and improve production efficiencies. 
In 1997, after almost 20 years of existence, Goldenglo entered the cooking oil market by establishing a sister company, Sunola Oil Mills (Pty) Ltd.
 
Under Sunola Oil Mills, the directors’ commissioned a state-of-the-art vegetable oil refinery and an oil packing facility, in Port Shepstone. Sunola Oil mills launched their cooking oil products into the market in 1998 and the company has grown from strength to strength.
 
In 2013 the company expanded its manufacturing operations by setting up an oil packing facility in Johannesburg. In 2020, Sunola Oils Mills commissioned an oil refinery in Johannesburg to further cement its footprint in Gauteng and surrounding provinces. Today Goldenglo and Sunola are regarded as one of the top oil, candle and soap manufacturers in South Africa and its products are used across the country as well as neighbouring countries like Swaziland, Angola and Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
